This paper looks at the various factors and how they can affect the final conclusion. The factors considered include the overall pattern, the specific arrangement of the pattern components, the degree and distribution of wear to the soles and any potentially characteristic features such as feathering (Schallamach) detail, cuts, gouges, etc. Examples will be shown as to how some of these features can vary.
